6. Appreciating Gifts

Where gifts are exchanged, there are of course pleasantries exchanged too, but in the context of a charity, what must be avoided are inducements to act or behave in a particular way.

Generally speaking a gift is something freely given, with nothing demanded in return. (Isn’t that how it should be in all circumstances!)

So for gifts to appreciate in value ensure your Trustees know their boundaries within which they can perform independently and together as a board, and in all situations, for the benefit of the Charity.

In this regard, Trustees should consider the procedures for authorisation and oversight of their charity's funds, with an abiding culture of transparency within the Charity.
