A family business started in the early 1970s providing engineering services, A J Wells & Sons went on to develop the Charnwood range of multi-fuel stoves. In these days of high energy costs and environmental concerns, the products now on offer provide an efficient and clean source of domestic heating.
A second major strand to the business has been the development of a vitreous enamelling plant, which supplies station signage to London Underground and other transport operators. The company’s factory on the Isle of Wight is a significant employer in the region.
